Looking for guidance on how to fill out the application questions? Below is an example application for a bicycle light idea to serve as a guide.

1. What experience do you bring to this effort?
I have been riding a bike for most of my life so I recognize and have experienced the dangers of cycling.
2. Describe your overall product/idea. Why is it unique?
I propose the manufacturing of bicycle brake and signal lights. This product is unique because unlike similar forms of break and signal lights, my product will be visible on the bicycle at all times.
3. What market need or problem does your idea address?
This product will reduce injuries and deaths attributed to low visibility and lack of signaling by bike riders.

4. Who will buy it? What is the size of the market?
Individuals who regularly ride bicycles are the primary focus for this product. This market includes parents of children, college students, and environmentally conscious individuals.
5. What products will compete with your idea?
There are forms of this product on the market through online outlets (eBay.com, Amazon.com, etc.) but there are few in-store options. My product will differ from competitors because it will be visible from every direction. Visit http://lucidbrake.com. to see how competing products are too small to notice while in motion.
6. What is the geographic scope of your business?
I would like to begin selling this product in the Eau Claire area and surrounding college towns in western Wisconsin. Within 5 years I would like to have this product available nationally.
7. What is the greatest obstacle to success?
Getting people to understand the advantages of this product - in other words, marketing. Very few people signal while riding a bicycle so this will require a bit of a shift in thinking. Price may be a factor, especially for college students.
